CONGRATS! Ashley HS teacher gets a new Prius to drive for a year

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Educator of the Year is now driving around town in her new Prius!

Hendrick Toyota of Wilmington donated the brand new 2017 Prius 3 for the cause and Angela Hewett is more than appreciative.

“I’m very excited,” Hewett said. “I wouldn’t care what it looked like, what year it is, the idea of receiving a gift of this substance is so exciting to me.”

Hewett is an art teacher at Ashley High School and is the 2017 Educator of the Year for New Hanover County.  She now moves on to the regionals.

This is the 5th year Hendrick Toyota has been a part of the awards.  “I brought the idea when I moved here from Charleston, SC,” General Manager Doug Thompson said. ” I always wanted to be a part of the school system, and I thought it was a great way to give back a little bit.”

At the end of the year, Hewett will get the option to buy the Prius at what Thompson says will be “Far, far below market price”.
