WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW) — Junior middle blocker Meredith Peacock was named Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player-of-the-Week after helping UNCW to a 2-0 mark on the road last week.

Peacock earned the honor after leading the Seahawks at the net with 13 total blocks over the course of two matches. In a sweep of William & Mary, she totaled five blocks and added eight blocks, all assists, in a four-set win over James Madison, snapping the Dukes’ five-match winning streak.

“Strong blocking has the ability to completely shift the momentum of a game and Meredith consistently provides this spark for our team,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “I’m proud of Meredith and her teammates performances on the road this past weekend and I know they will all continue to work hard to achieve their goals.“

Peacock and the Seahawks lead the CAA in total blocks and blocks per set. Nationally Peacock is tied for fourth with 95 total blocks and the Seahawks are 11th with 173 blocks.

Peacock, who hails from Charlotte, N.C., also fashioned a strong week offensively with 16 kills and a .387 hitting average. Peacock moved into the league’s top-10 in hitting with a .286 average.

The Seahawks return to action on Oct. 11 with a 7 p.m. start at conference newcomer Elon.
