Conversation continues as home on Wrightsville Avenue fears future sidewalks
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The owner of an historic home in Wilmington plans to speak to city council, at Tuesday night’s meeting, about losing part of his property so the city can install sidewalks.
A few weeks ago, we introduced you to John Voet who owns the Page-Ward house on Wrightsville Avenue. Council members unanimously gave the green light during a previous meeting to move forward with the Wrightsville Avenue Sidewalk Project.
Voet said this past Friday, he was served a letter of condemnation for part of the property. He wanted to provide another solution to council at Tuesday’s meeting during the public comment period, before he’s woken up Saturday by a very loud sound.
“They’ve already passed the condemnation resolution. Where it stands as of now, as of May 10th, the resolution is going to be processed in the courts. On May 11th, I might hear the sound of chainsaws on Wrightsville Avenue,” Voet said.
For 25 years, Voet has lived at the Page-Ward House which was built in 1911.
