County Commissioner’s race in Pender County could be a recount

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) – All evening it appeared that the Pender County Commission chairman would be unseated by challenger David Fallin.

George Brown has served as a Pender County commissioner for more than 10 years with the last few as chair of the commission.

Fallin lead in the race up until the final results came in. Unofficially, Brown has won the Republican ticket for the 3rd county commission district by 36 votes.

Brown amassed 1,962 votes with 50.46%. Fallin trails with 1,926 votes at 49.54%. County board of elections officials tell WWAY that if the vote totals come within 1% of one another, a recount may be requested. County officials tell us these results are unofficial with some ballots still to be processed.

Fallin told WWAY’s Andrew James he was surprised with how the final results turned out and that he is weighing the option to request for a recount and possible runoff.
