County election boards continue voting machine testing ahead of early voting

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — With just 34 days until the general election, election workers across the country are working hard to prepare, including in our area.

Election workers in Brunswick County have begun testing election day voting machines. The bipartisan team already completed testing on machines that will be used for early voting.

Workers run test paper ballots through the machine to make sure that the number of votes match what was written on the test ballots.

Brunswick County Board of Elections Director Sara Lavere said voters should make a plan to cast their ballot.

“The voter registration deadline is coming up, that is October 11th. Voters should check there registration now and make sure they’re registered to vote at their current address,” Lavere said. “Voters should be thinking about how do they want to cast their ballot, do they want to do absentee by mail, do they plan to go vote early at one of the early voting locations, or are they going to go on election day.”

Lavere also noted that if you plan to vote early, you can choose any early voting location in your county, not just your election day polling location.

Early voting begins in North Carolina on October 17.

You can check your voter registration through NC Voter Search.

You can register to vote by visiting your county board of elections, by mail, or online.
