County reduces curfew, encourages evacuees to stay put
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Now that additional power has been restored, New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington have moved the daily curfew back from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Beginning Wednesday, the daily curfew will last from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m.
The latest estimate from Duke Energy shows approximately 46,710 power outages in the county. Duke Energy is expecting to have all power restored in New Hanover County no later than Sunday at 11:45 pm.
New Hanover County continues to ask that evacuees stay where they are, because routes into New Hanover County are continually changing and there is limited access.
“The smaller roadways leading into the county cannot sustain the traffic of an interstate highway,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “At this time, Emergency Management is only running essential supplies, utility crews and emergency responders on those routes. We need those access roads to get aid into our community.”
Residents are encouraged to monitor the NCDOT website for updates.
