Covered road signs installed ahead of bridge rehab project

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If you’ve noticed covered road signs while driving in New Hanover and parts of Brunswick County, we now know the reason for them.

Brian Rick with the North Carolina Department of Transportation says a rehab project on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is set to begin soon.

The signs have been put in place to direct drivers through a detour.

Once the project begins, the signs will be uncovered.

Work is expected to start sometime this summer, though Rick could not say how long it will take to complete.
