Crash shuts down both lanes on Hwy 17 in Hampstead

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — One lane in each direction is now open after a crash in the 16000 block of Highway 17 in Hampstead shut down the road.

It happened around 11:00 a.m., according to Pender County Fire Marshall Tommy Batson.

The wreck is at Hampstead Furniture. A utility pole also broke, which caused power lines to go down across Highway 17. Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed.

According to Pender County’s Emergency Management Facebook page, two lanes of traffic are now open, one lane northbound and one lane southbound.

Traffic will very slow for the next few hours.

Emergency Services and Duke Energy are both on scene and working to get the road reopened.

The Highway Patrol is also on scene.
