Creating opportunities: Event empowers minority entrepreneurs

CAPE FEAR, NC (WWAY) — Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week is off to a strong start, thanks to the Genesis Block Foundation, which hosted the “Contracts and Conversations” event as part of the week’s activities.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for small, local, and minority-owned businesses to connect with larger companies, aiming to create new opportunities.

Attendees enjoyed lunch while listening to a panel of business leaders who shared the beginnings of their journeys. The day offered insights into how to start and hopefully concluded with agreements in writing.

Tracey Newkirk, co-founder of Genesis Block, explained the event’s purpose: “How we came up with the name Conversations to Contracts—we wanted to be incredibly deliberate so that when our anchored institutions came and engaged in this event, they knew the sole purpose is to have conversations with our local small and diverse-owned businesses for the sole purpose of those turning into contracts.”

MED Week will continue into next week. For more information on the remaining events, visit their website.
