Creative teens design runway-ready looks for annual competition
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Happening Saturday night, it’s the 8th annual Fiction to Fashion competition, a Project Runway-style fashion event that challenges local teens to create wearable art from unconventional materials.
The show, organized by the New Hanover County Public Library, will take place at Azalea Station in the Cargo District at 1502 Castle Street, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The competition pushes young designers to think outside the box by using discarded library items like books, cassette tapes, and CDs to create their unique looks. These innovative outfits will be judged as they make their way down the runway, with participants vying for titles including “Crowd Favorite,” “Most Avant-Garde,” “Best Runway Swagger,” “Best Accessory,” “Best Literary Tie-In,” and “Most Ready to Wear.” Winners in each category will receive prizes for their creativity and skill.
Open to the public and free to attend, this family-friendly event invites the community to cheer on talented teens as they showcase their creations. While registration is not required to attend, seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and a café will be available onsite from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., offering a selection of beverages for purchase.
With limited parking available, organizers recommend carpooling to the event to ensure space for all guests.
The Fiction to Fashion competition celebrates creativity and sustainability, offering a unique opportunity for teens to blend literature and fashion. For more information, visit the New Hanover County Public Library’s website.
