CALABASH, NC (WWAY) — Utility crews respond to a water main break that is leaving some residents in Calabash without water pressure.

According to the Calabash Fire Department, crews are on the scene near Beach Drive and are working to fix the problem, but it’s unknown at this time how long the repair will take but say it could take quite a while.

The water consumers of Brunswick County Public Utilities in Calabash located at:
• 9011 to 9151 Beach Dr
• Calabash Acres
• Wilson Ave
• Charlotte Ave
• Durham Ave
• Highpoint Ave
• Meares St
• Fayetteville Ave
• Haden Pl
• Ward Ave
• Mille Ave
• River Dr
Approximately 270 residential and commercial connections have been affected. Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for back-siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system. A boil water notice is in effect for these areas.

Once the repair is made, the fire department says that areas that are affected could have a brief period of brown water, so be sure to run your water until it clears.
