Crews respond to ‘mass casualty incident’ after SC crash; 10 hospitalized

Ten people were hospitalized after a crash Wednesday morning that Horry County Fire Rescue called a “mass casualty incident” in a tweet.

Three people were critically injured and seven others hurt during the two-car wreck near the intersection of Socastee Boulevard and Brandymill Boulevard around 8:30 a.m., according to Horry County Fire officials at the scene.

Three people were trapped in one of the vehicles involved, according to Horry County Fire.

The crash involved a passenger car and a van that fire officials say was full of painters.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash and drivers are being asked to avoid the area as crews work to investigate.

As of around 10:30 a.m. traffic on Highway 707 is still shut down as a result of the crash.
