Crews responding to fire in Boiling Spring Lakes

BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY) — Crews are fighting a large brushfire in Boiling Spring Lakes.

The forest fire is located near West Boiling Spring Road & Barclay Road.

According to Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue, Crews are currently operating at a large scale woods fire. Fire behavior kept Crews busy while it kept jumping lines and threatening structures. Though there were outbuildings lost, no homes were lost as of 3:00 p.m., there were several firefighters treated on scene for smoke/heat related illness.

Highway 87 is now shut down through Boiling Spring Lakes. Traffic is being diverted down Danford Road from Highway 17. Drivers are asked to avoid area and use caution.

According to the North Carolina Forest Service, the fire is 108 acres and 0% contained as of 4:54 p.m.

The Cape Fear Jetport says that they are using low flying planes to fight the fire.
