Crooked Creek Fire in McDowell County now 100% contained

Officials have confirmed that the Crooked Creek Fire, which burned 220 acres, is now 100% contained, according to McDowell County Emergency Management.

McDowell County officials said there were no reported injuries or fatalities from either the Crooked Creek or North Fork fires, but the Crooked Creek Fire did damage one home and destroy multiple outbuildings.

Evacuation orders in McDowell County were lifted at 8 a.m. on Thursday after crews made progress battling a wildfire overnight. McDowell County officials say that due to technical issues with cell networks, some cell phones continued to alert residents this morning of evacuation orders, but all have been lifted.
