Crowds show up for ‘National Night Out’
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The rain Tuesday evening didn’t stop crowds from gathering at the Carolina Beach boardwalk, but they weren’t there for the scenery.
They were there for a lesson from the Police Advisory Committee during their National Night Out event. All local police, fire and EMS agencies were there to teach people about their professions and give safety tips.
Coast guard representatives say events like this are crucial in promoting emergency departments.
“We’re here to kind of promote boater safety and educate, of course,” said Stephen Locklear with the U.S. Coast Guard.
“We brought our shallow purpose craft along to let the kids on board and some of the adults on board to kind of show them what we can do, show them our capabilities, show them that we’re here in the area and just kind of get a face to face with the public.”
