Cucalorus and the “Silver Pride Circle of the Cape Fear” to host first-ever “Silver Pride Cinema Festival”

Three feature films and a "shorts block," centered around queer lives and stories -- will be screened.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)–Cucalorus and the “Silver Pride Circle of the Cape Fear” plan to hold the first-ever “Silver Pride Cinema Festival.”

The one-day LGBTQ+ film festival will be held on Saturday, May 10th, at Jengo’s Playhouse in downtown Wilmington.

Three feature films and a “shorts block,” centered around queer lives and stories — will be screened.

Cucalorus Film Foundation Programming Manager Alex Toribio says The Silver Pride Circle used to host many LGBTQ+ events at Jengo’s Playhouse. However, this year, the group wanted to partner with Cucalorus to share more stories about the queer community.

“We need stories to be about us. We need stories to be about older queer folks as well. I mean, especially with what’s going on with DEI- taking diversity out of things. We want to stand against that and know that everyone is welcome here,” Toribio said.

The festival will kick off on May 10th at 10:45 A.M. An all-day festival pass is $35, and individual tickets for screenings are $10. Tickets and passes are on sale now.
