Culinary event brings Chef Bobby Flay to the Cape Fear

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An event at the Country Club of Landfall in New Hanover County featured a celebrity chef. It helped celebrate three area organizations.

Beacon Education, G.L.O.W Academy, and Spark Academy all collaborated to make this 9th annual event happen.

It also marked the kickoff for its new Cape Fear Wine and Food Experience. It’ll help to raise money for the three organizations.

Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay made a special appearance. He owns several restaurants in New York City but he made his way to the Port City for this culinary event.

Flay said the event falling on International Women’s Day was the perfect recipe for Friday because the G.L.O.W Academy is a girl only school.

“I think it’s just a fantastic project. I have a daughter, my only child is a daughter. So, I’m pro-girl all the way. I love the fact that a culinary department is really a big part of the school,” Flay said.

Flay said he enjoyed his meal at Origins Food and Drink, a restaurant off Eastwood Rd. in Wilmington.
