Damaged pole is raising safety concerns

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A damaged pole on Carolina Beach Road is raising safety concerns from some folks in the area.

About 2 months ago the pole was hit in a car accident. According to Duke Energy, a new pole has been put in place and the electrical wires have been attached, however the city said wires from AT&T are still connected to the damaged pole.

Property owner James Anderson says he is just worried someone is going to get hurt.

“My concern is the no one can seem to get their act together and the pole is sitting there and it’s going to fall and hurt someone one day,” said Anderson.

Engineers with Duke Energy said that because the telephone wires are still attached to the damaged pole, it will not fall down. An AT&T spokeswoman said a crew will be out tomorrow morning to transfer the wires.
