David Rouzer meets Wilmington city leaders, discusses goals
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — US Representative-elect David Rouzer stopped in the Port City Wednesday to discuss the priorities of the Cape Fear region with Wilmington city leaders.
Mayor Bill Saffo says that is transportation and beach renourishment are two of the city’s biggest concerns and priorities.
“Because of the economic engine that the beaches are and the amount of people that come down here,” Saffo said. “How do we transport people around this region that is growing at a very fast rate. We have a lot of people that are moving into Southeastern North Carolina.”
Saffo says both of those topics affect Wilmington’s overall economy.
“Of course economic development and how do we stay competitive in the 21st century and what he can do in Washington to help us here locally,” Saffo said. “I think it’s very important not only to him but also to us.”
Rouzer met with all different types of city leaders, from the fire marshal to the traffic engineer, to get what he says is a true list of issues that are important to the area.
“It’s where I’m going to have a vast majority of my staff, my district staff in particular,” Rouzer said. “I’m going to be in and out of Wilmington every week even while we’re in Congress.”
Rouzer added he plans to work hand-in-hand with Wilmington city leaders.
“There are certain things that can be done at the federal level to make life a lot easier down here at the local level.”
