WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Co-workers are remembering a man who was killed in a hit and run in Wilmington earlier in April.

Just after midnight on April 12th, Wilmington Police say they responded to the 5100 block of Wrightsville Avenue.

They found John Williams, 57,  critically injured after an alleged hit and run.

William was riding on his e-bike when he was allegedly hit by David Neely, 68, of Burgaw, who is now charged DWI and hit and run.

Williams died at the hospital.

We now know that Williams was an employee at Molly Pitcher’s American Grill in Wilmington, where he made an impact.

“Just always a positive attitude, never let anything get in his way, worked his butt off,” says bartender Rachel Scott, adding that Williams “would give you the shirt off his back.”

“You always knew where you stood with him,” said restaurant manager Chris Garner. “You always knew what you were going to get from him. He was dependable; he was here everyday; can’t say much more than that. He was just a good dude.”

Neely is still being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
