Debris fire in Parkwood Estate in Leland catches two vehicles on fire

Remember, a statewide burn ban is still in effect.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY)– Even though North Carolina is still under a burn ban, firefighters are having to deal with people who break the law.

Leland, Navassa, and state forest service fire officials had to respond to a call around 2:20 Wednesday afternoon in the one thousand block of Lexington Avenue in Leland.

A spokesman says a resident was burning some trash, when the fire got out of control, scorching two vehicles.

The fire took ten minutes to put out, and the property owner was given a citation.
