Delco gas station sees more business after Hurricane Matthew
DELCO, NC (WWAY) — While there are still thousands without power tonight, some gas stations were even running low, but we managed to find a gas station on Highway 74/76 that was a hot spot tonight for people.
Sam’s Pit Stop in Delco says they have seen an increase in customers because they say they are the only open gas station for miles.
“It’s just been a rush all day, non stop,” Cashier Adremana Murphy said. “There were lines like a parade basically.”
Whiteville resident Craig Duncan who was coming home from Wilmington stopped by to fill up.
He says roads further west where he lives are not easy to navigate.
“It’s horrible,”Duncan said. “There’s no way into Whiteville. We have to drive like 15 miles out of the way in Clarkton to get into Whiteville.”
Duncan describes everything is filled with water even his office.
“It never flooded during Floyd, but this one was totally different,” he said.
He says after all the years he has lived in the area, he never had seen the flooding so bad.
“It’s the worst,” Duncan said. “It’s the worst I’ve ever seen.”
He doesn’t have power at his house either and just hope to get it back on sooner than later.
