Delivery driver hits suspect with pizza box during robbery attempt

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  Wilmington Police arrested a man after they say he placed a fake order and then tried to rob the pizza delivery driver Thursday night.

Police say it happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street. Officers say a Domino’s delivery driver there told them he was delivering an order when a man said he had a gun and demanded money from the driver.

Police say when the driver refused to hand over cash and hit the suspect with the pizza box before the would-be robber took off running. Officers say they later found a man matching the suspect description near Shipyard Blvd. and Vance Street.

They arrested Evan Tyler Gordon, 25, for attempted armed robbery. Gordon was book in jail under $40,000 bond.
