Democrats of North Carolina’s 9th District rally for fair elections

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some voters in Bladen County still have no voice in Washington. District 9 remains vacant after the state board did not certify the election two months ago.

This weekend, a rally was held in Bladen County to push for a change.

Democrats of North Carolina’s 9th District rally for fair elections at Elizabethtown Middle School. The event is a response to alleged voter fraud in the 2018 congressional election still being sorted out.

“This all started when the state board of elections refused to certify the results of our run for congress there’s a lot of people who had their votes stolen, their voices stolen from them, and this rally today is about standing for free and fair elections,” said Dan McCready, candidate in the 2018 Congressional Election.

In January, The 9th District Executive Committee decided that action had to be taken in order to rectify past mistakes, and to prevent it from happening again. The afternoon was filled with support of the election process and plenty of motivation to do better.

“We all want fair elections. We want voters to know that when they go to the voting booth their vote will be counted, when they send in an absentee ballot, it will be counted,” said Cynthia Wallace, 9th Congressional District.

North Carolina’s Republican Party Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse’s thoughts on the rally are pretty cut and dry: “there has simply been no evidence put in public that anybody’s vote was changed altered or destroyed. Nothing. And they presented nothing today.”

McCready adds that “this is about what it means to be an american, this is about what does it mean to live in a democracy.”
