Deputies investigating assault during armed robbery

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County deputies are investigating after they say a man was assaulted during an armed robbery early Friday.

It happened in the 5300 block of S. College Road near the Waffle House there just after 12:30 a.m. That’s where a sheriff’s spokesman says a man was walking when he was approached by two men, one with a knife and another with a gun.

Deputies say the suspect carrying the knife assaulted the man before the duo took off with his book-bag. A spokesman says the victim was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but is expected to be OK.
