Deputies: Mom, son embezzled thousands from Wilmington Boy Scout troop

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Hampstead woman and her son are accused of embezzling thousands from a Wilmington Boy Scout troop.

Catherine Rich Barbour was arrested by Pender County Sheriff deputies Monday and charged with five counts of embezzlement.

She allegedly embezzled almost $4,000 from Boy Scout Troop 274 in Wilmington. Barbour served as chair of the Troop’s committee and the crimes took place over a period of time between July and December 2017.

Barbour posted bond and her first appearance on the charges was held Tuesday in Pender County District Court.

Barbour’s son, Bryan Thomas Barbour, has outstanding warrants for his arrest for felony financial card fraud in connection with this case.

He is believed to be staying in the Leland area of Brunswick County.
