Deputy OK after driving off road

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy is OK after his SUV went off the road and wound up in some trees.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Jerry Brewer says the deputy says a motorcycle was riding the center line, and as he came around a curve on N. Kerr Avenue, the motorcycle drifted into his lane. The deputy says he swerved to avoid the motorcycle and wound up driving off the road and into a ditch against some trees.

Brewer says the deputy was being checked out for a scratch on his head, but was otherwise fine.

There’s no word yet on the extent of the damage to the SUV.

Brewer says the motorcyclist did not stop.
