Details released surrounding deadly Onslow County Mini Mart shooting

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Further details have been released from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office regarding a Wednesday night deadly shooting at a Mini Mart and Tobacco Shop.

The Sheriff’s Office was called to the business at 3458 Burgaw Highway, locating a dead person lying in the parking lot with apparent gunshot wounds and a second victim dead in a vehicle in the parking lot.

A third victim was found and transported to the US Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, where his condition is listed as stable.

The investigation indicates the incident was an apparent drug deal turned robbery. Multiple handguns were recovered from the scene, one of which had previously been reported stolen, officials say.

The deceased victims have been identified as Christian Peterson, 18, and Kalib Mekhi Bostick, 19.

Wali Shamiere Johnson, 20, is in custody and charged with one Open Count of Murder, Robbery with Firearms, and Conspiring to Commit Robbery.

Johnson is currently incarcerated in the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond with a first court appearance of January 4, 2024.

A 17-year-old juvenile male has also been arrested and charged with murder, robbery with firearm and conspire to commit robbery.

Officials say this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public.
