Diamond Hawks fall to Carolina in midweek clash
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–It was a rough start to the game for UNCW baseball on Wednesday night at Brooks field against Carolina. Seahawk starter Zarion Sharpe gave up four runs and lasted just a third of inning. The Seahawks battled back and tied the game at four in the third inning.
The offense pitching of UNCW though ran out of gas in the later innings as the Tar Heels picked up the 11-4 win.
Cole Weiss led seven different Seahawks with a hit in the ballgame. The CAA player of the week continues to produce, going 1-3 with a home run and 2 RBI’s.
Caleb Roberts the freshman for the Tar Heels was impressive. Roberts was 3-4 with 2 RBI’s as well as a walk.
Landen Roupp took the loss for UNCW falling to now 1-2 on the year. He was spectacular in relief though, throwing 5.2 innings allowing just one run and struck out six Tar Heel hitters.
UNCW will now hit the road for the second time this season. The Seahawks will meet up with Memphis for a three game series in Tennessee starting on Friday night.
