Neighbors concerned about dirt bike event in Rocky Point

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY)– Neighbors in Rocky Point want to slam the brakes on a dirt bike event revving up this weekend.
The “Salty Acres off-road excursion” is being held on a sand track, near Carl Meeks Road. The event invites all dirt bike enthusiast to come on enjoy the track and have a great time.
Although the track is meant to be fun for everyone, neighbors like Gary Helm are upset, claiming the bikes bring disruptive noise to what was once a peaceful, quiet neighborhood.
“The noise levels here are horrendous. I’ve recorded on a decibel meter, standing further away from this track than I am on, showing high 80s to low 90s. Which the CDC requires hearing protection at that point. I can be on the tractor with my headphones on ….and I can still hear it”, says Helm.
Chad Nichol, property owner, says he is not violating any noise ordinances and says the event is good for the area and it is good for business.
