Dixon High School student hit and killed at school bus stop

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WCTI) — A Dixon High School student was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to board an Onslow County School bus Monday morning.

The 16 year-old victim has been identified as David Palacio.

Trooper Oglesby with Highway Patrol said the collision happened around 6:40 a.m. on Dawson Cabin Road near Stillwood Road. The bus was traveling toward Highway 17 and stopped in front of a home. The stop arm was extended on the school bus and  the bus driver waved Palacio to cross.

Trooper Oglesby said the teen was struck by a black Honda Civic traveling in the opposite direction.  According to officials, Joshua Aaron Block, 26,  was the driver of vehicle. He is a Staff Sergeant at New River.

The boy was taken to Onslow Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Highway Patrol is meeting with the District Attorney this afternoon to discuss charges but none are pending at this time.
