Dog found safe after being reported stolen during Wilmington car theft

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’re learning more details about a wild police chase that started in Wilmington and ended in Brunswick County.

Joshua Carter left his dog Leftie in his car while he went into the Circle K on Carolina Beach Road last Friday.

When he came out, the car and Lefty were gone.

He called 911, and several police cars gave chase, creating traffic tie-ups on Highway 17 & 74-76 in Brunswick County.

Police later arrested Noah Jackson, who is charged with felony larceny and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Carter believes Lefty was dumped out of the car during the chase and miraculously made his way back to the Circle K, unharmed.

Carter said he’s grateful Lefty made it out of that situation.

“At least I have what’s most important because it’s, he’s all I have in this world, so,” Carter said. “My car, you know, can be replaced, it’s a material object, but you know, he can’t.”

Carter’s car was totaled during the chase, and he is now without transportation, which he needs for his personal training business.

Carter has started a GoFundMe to buy a new car.
