Dogs receive blessing on Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH (WWAY) — It’s the season for dog lovers and their furry friends to walk on Wrightsville Beach.

Little Chapel On The Boardwalk Presbyterian Church members held a blessing for their dogs.

Dan Hammond says this is the first year members held a ‘Blessing of the Pets’ event.

He says the idea sparked from a conversation their minister had with another minister of an Episcopal church that’s been doing this event for years.

Hammond says it sounded interesting enough to bring to, The Little Chapel.

He says this event was a way of speaking blessings over their pets to have a successful year.

“In a blessing, the youth in the church say a prayer over the dog, and that is the blessing. The minister blesses the whole function,” Hammond expressed.

He says the blessing was such a great turnout that he hopes they can do it again next year.
