Dosher Memorial Hospital Receives $30,000 grant

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — ‘Tis the season for giving and one foundation did just that, donating a large grant to Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport.

The hospital received $30,000 from The Orton Foundation Friday afternoon. It is a grant for the Emergency Department which treats more than 13,000 patients each year.

With this grant the hospital is buying three stretchers, but not just any stretchers, high tech motorized stretchers which operate and stop on their own.

Dr. Joseph Hatem, Medical Director of the Dosher Hospital Emergency Department, says the new additions will give patients more security and nurses a little extra help.

“What these stretchers are, are they’re motorized, they’re much more comfortable. They provide patients safety, caregivers safety, they don’t have to be pushed in fact they’re motorized there will be less back strain. Less difficulty for our nursing staff. So it is a wonderful addition to our Emergency Department,” Dr. Hatem said.

This grant was the third and largest donation given to the hospital by The Orton Foundation. Over the past three years they have donated a total of $80,000.
