Dosher Memorial Hospital unveils new emergency department

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for it’s new emergency department on Thursday night.

More than 100 people gathered to see the hospital’s new emergency department.

The 8,000 square feet more than doubles the size of the existing emergency department, built back in 1980.

It will be able to accommodate up to 14 patients at a time.

Hospital and city leaders, including Mayor Joe Pat Hatem, spoke about the significance of the new facility.

Linda Stanley is the hospital’s CEO and president.

She said the new space has more advanced technology to enhance their level of care.

“Brand new technology within this space. We had it in the old emergency department. But when we transitioned it over, we were able to bring some new technology as well. So this is going to help us provide more efficient care.”

Renovations to the new emergency department cost nearly $10 million.

The old emergency department will be renovated and turned into a clinic for wound care and general surgery.
