RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Thursday night The Department of Transportation is threatening to withhold millions in federal funding for the state of North Carolina.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says more than half of the state’s commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) granted to non-citizens were issued illegally.

The department claims it performed an audit of state trucking license systems.

The USDOT says if North Carolina doesn’t fix the alleged irregularities and revoke all illegally issued licenses, it will withhold nearly $50 million in federal funding.

The report was sent to Governor Josh Stein Thursday who has yet to comment.
