Downed power lines leaves neighborhood in the dark

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One neighborhood off Gordon Rd. in New Hanover County has been without power since about 2:00 Saturday afternoon thanks to some downed power lines in the area.

The road remains blocked off in all directions where the lines still litter the road. Neighbors out tonight said they are not too worried though, because things could be much worse.

“Honestly I was at first, but after seeing what everybody else is going through I can deal with no power way better than dealing with flooding and everything else that everybody else is going through,” said Dori Walker.

Now the hum of generators fills the street and some homes have televisions and refrigerators running again to help pass the time until the lights come back on.

The people we talked with tonight said they may not get power back until early next week.
