Downtown bar managers discuss safety
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Area colleges are back in session, and students are hitting the drinking age which means there are new drinkers in town. A night on the town can be fun but there is also potential for trouble. Some downtown bar managers and owners say they have some specific policies in place to keep their customers safe.
The Husk in Wilmington is a popular spot downtown. On the weekends that bar, like many downtown, gets a lot of people coming in and out.
Trey Harrison, a manager for The Husk, said they keep employees near all the exits to keep an eye on everything that’s going on. He said they also have employees pick up unattended drinks. Harrison says their number one priority is making sure people are safe and enjoying themselves.
“I think it’s very important whenever you go out drinking you don’t want to be troubled or worried about having a bad time,” said Harrison. “Like I said here at The Husk we definitely make sure we have a very positive atmosphere, make sure everyone is safe and having a good time.”
Other bars in the area have similar policies as far picking up abandoned drinks and keeping an eye on patrons. Bar mangers also told WWAY they communicate with each other and look out for one another. For example they let each other know if there’s someone causing trouble downtown.
