Downtown Wilmington bars preparing for busy New Year’s Eve
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Year’s Eve is just several days away and while many people will be celebrating at home, plenty of people will be hitting the bars to ring in the new year.
Some Wilmington bars, like the Husk on Front Street, said they’re going to treat New Year’s Eve like any other busy night during the rest of the year.
Bartender Derek Corbett said the fact that it’s New Year’s Eve doesn’t guarantee it will be a busy night, but he’s hoping to see plenty of partygoers coming to rin in 2024.
“Yeah, its hit or miss,” Corbett said. “Some people enjoy the house parties or they’ll go out to dinner, go into a bar. I think it just varies from year to year, but I think we’ll have a good turnout this year. A lot of people are in town, relatives are still here after traveling. But fingers crossed it should be a good one.”
Alex Miner works at Reel Cafe and said there are several reasons why its better to go to a bar for New Year’s than stay at home.
“Its probably the social thing, you know, going out with your friends, having a good time, being there for the ball drop and finding a lucky lady to kiss on the cheeks,” Miner said.
According to American Addiction Centers, New Year’s Eve is the second biggest holiday for drinking with the average person consuming a little less than 4 and a half drinks.
The biggest holiday for drinking is Mardi Gras.
