‘Dream come true:’ Habitat for Humanity dedicates new home to Southport native

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — One woman will now have a roof over her head after a home dedication in Brunswick County.

Juli Newton cut the ribbon on her new home in Southport on Wednesday afternoon.

Newton grew up in Southport and then moved away. After moving several times throughout her life, she moved back to the area four years ago.

She says she was doing alright, until the rent on her apartment increased. She then found it difficult to afford a place to live. That’s when she applied for a home through Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity.

She now has a home of her own.

“I started in June a year ago, the journey to build this house,” Newton said. “I was born and raised in Southport, so it’s always been my home and I came back four years ago and didn’t know how I was going to make it but Habitat for Humanity stepped in and showed me a way. Now look at this. They made my dream come true.”

Newton says she is excited to be able to have a home to pass along to her son one day.
