WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –Wilmington police say a man has been arrested in connection with a motorcycle crash that killed 40-year-old Thomas Jarrott last weekend.

Officers were called to Carolina Beach Road near Shipyard Boulevard around 7:55 p.m. on October 25 for a crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle.

Investigators determined Jarrott was riding south on Carolina Beach Road alongside another motorcyclist when a vehicle driven by Jose Emmanuel Diaz-Jimenez, 24, turned left from the center lane into a parking lot. The first motorcyclist avoided the vehicle, but police say Jarrott was struck and died from his injuries.

Following the investigation, Diaz-Jimenez was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, unsafe movement resulting in serious injury to a motorcyclist, and driving without a license.

He is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Center on a $30,000 secured bond.
