Driver cited in crash that killed utility worker

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Highway Patrol has charged a driver in connection with a traffic crash that killed a utility worker yesterday in Pender County.

Floyd Edward Osborne, 72, was cited for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to maintain a lane.

Jereme Alan Holt, 40, of Burlington died. A second man working with him received minor injuries.

Investigators say Osborne’s pick-up was heading north on US 17 in Hampstead when he hit the workers at the intersection of Sloop Point Road.

Osborne is due back in court Nov. 21.
