Drysdale Drive Extension: Phase one almost complete
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There’s an update on a road project currently underway in New Hanover County along Military Cutoff and Eastwood Roads.
These two roads handle a high volume of traffic daily and can become extremely congested, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), some major improvements are on the way.
The new “Drysdale Drive Extension” is the first phase of two major projects aimed at improving traffic flow in this busy area. Once completed, it will provide a crucial connection between Military Cutoff and Eastwood Roads.
By 2026, traffic on Eastwood Road will be rerouted onto a bridge over Military Cutoff, and Drysdale Drive will become one of the main connectors between the two roads.
Joshua Pratt, an engineer with the NCDOT, shares what is in store for this extension.
“It’ll improve the function of that intersection. It’ll allow for the straight-through traffic on Eastwood and Military Cutoff to not be in conflict. It will improve safety and help with traffic flow,” Pratt says.
Pratt also shares that the Drysdale Drive Extension is already 85% complete, and the new road is expected to open early 2025.
