Duke Energy and county officials to test sirens around Brunswick Nuclear Plant

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — On Wednesday, January 7th, Duke Energy and county officials will test the outdoor warning sirens around the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.
Residents may hear sirens between 10 and 11 in the morning and they will sound for 5 to 30 seconds. Anyone who hears a siren during scheduled testing does not need to take action.
To ensure they are functioning properly, some sirens may be tested more than once. Follow-up testing after siren maintenance may be required.
If there is a real emergency during the time requiring the sirens to be sounded, local radio and television stations will broadcast the information to the public.
Duke Energy owns and maintains a network of sirens within 10 miles of each of its nuclear plants, including 38 sirens around the Brunswick Nuclear Plant.
