Duke football team assists Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in Lumberton
LUMBERTON, NC (DUKE ATHLETICS) — Members of the Duke Football program – aided by the program’s official equipment truck – travelled on Wednesday afternoon to Lumberton, N.C., to deliver donated items for Hurricane Matthew relief initiatives.
“It means a lot because I know so many people impacted by the storm,” senior wide receiver Kane Banner, a Lumberton native, said. “I know a lot of people who are out of homes and their families out of homes. Being able to come back to my hometown and give what we were able to means so much. I’ve had people calling and texting me all day saying thank you. It boosts moral in the city and that helps out a lot, too.”
Banner was joined on Wednesday by teammates Zach Boden, Thomas Hennessy, Corbin McCarthy,Erich Schneider and Wyatt Smith.
In addition to today’s trip to Lumberton, Duke has partnered with Harris Teeter and NC Food Banks for the Big4 Million Meals canned food drive leading up to and at the Blue Devils’ home football game against Virginia Tech on November 5.
With every three items donated from the list below, fans may purchase one general admission ticket to Duke’s contest versus the Hokies for only $15.
Those wishing to make donations can do so at a variety of locations and times:
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Donations accepted at the Duke Athletics Ticket Office in Scott Family Athletics Performance Center
- Saturday, November 5, 9:00 a.m. – Kickoff – Donations accepted at the Bojangles Tailgate Show on Tribull Plaza, K-Ville Sign, Coca Cola Fan Zone on Bassett Drive and the Wilson Gate
Following an open date this weekend, Duke travels to face Georgia Tech on Saturday, October 29. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
