Dune Ordinance repealed in Topsail Beach

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Following a vote yesterday, the town of Topsail Beach voted down the highly debated dune ordinance.

Town council repealed the ordinance with a 4-1 vote.

The ordinance said property owners could not build on the dunes on the south part of the island, but now they can, pending clearance from CAMA and the town.

The town is going to let CAMA handle it and look to work with senators in North Carolina going forward.

Mayor Howard Braxton says the town may return to the issue after that discussion.
