Duplin County deputy involved in crash which killed driver of other vehicle

DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Duplin County deputy was involved in a deadly crash Thursday afternoon.

The deputy was dispatched around 4:46 p.m. to a house on Cornwallis Road for a pick up of belongings. Later in the evening at 7:55pm the same deputy was dispatched to the same home for a domestic dispute with possible weapons involved.

While on the way, the deputy was involved in a fatal motor vehicle accident involving another vehicle on Cornwallis Road and Betholite Road, according to the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle involved was transported to ECU Health in Kenansville and died from his injuries. The deputy was transported to ECU Health in Kenansville and treated for non life threatening injuries.

The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina State Highway.
