ECU and Veteran Smiles Foundation offers free dental clinic for low-income veterans

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A free dental clinic for low-income veterans was held on Friday.

The program organized by the ECU School of Dental Medicine and the Veteran Smiles Foundation gives low-income veterans the opportunity to receive free dental services

The service is offered periodically at clinic locations across the state. Friday’s event was held at ECU’s dental clinic in Bolivia.

The program also received $7,000 in donations from several veterans’ organizations in our area. Veteran Smiles Founder Colonel David McCracken said the event doesn’t just offer free checkups, but also operations.

“Here with this program, it’s full service dental care from exam and x-rays, through completion of the dental care plan that they build from the exam x-rays,” he said.

According to the Veterans Smiles Foundation, only 8% of veterans qualify for dental care through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
