GREENVILLE, NC (WCTI) — The East Carolina University Board of Trustees has voted to rename the former Aycock Residence Hall.

In a press release, the board voted to change Building 71, its most recent name, to Legacy Hall. The building name was changed from Aycock Residence Hall in late December of last year. ECU Facilities Services staff members removed the lettering and signage designating the building Aycock Residence Hall. Since late December, the building has been referred to by its campus building inventory number, 71.

The board began discussion in 2014 about renaming the residence hall after news surfaced that former Gov. Charles Aycock had been associated with white supremacy campaigns.
