ECU snaps long losing skid against UNCW
GREENVILLE, NC (COURTESY UNCWSPORTS.COM) — Luke Bolka belted a three-run homer and four East Carolina pitchers combined to limit UNCW to four hits as the Pirates sailed to a 10-2 win on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Pirates snapped a seven-game skid with the win to improve to 19-15 while the Seahawks dropped to 13-18.
Kirk Morgan (1-0), making his second start of the season, picked up the win. The righthander struck out three and allowed one run on two hits and a walk.
Eric Tyler and Wes Phillips led ECU with two hits apiece.
Mason Berne, Robbie Thorburn, Blake Deatherage and Riley Zayicek had UNCW’s hits.
Freshman Chris Joyner (1-1) suffered the loss for UNCW, allowing five runs, one earned, over three innings.
Up next: The Seahawks return to conference play Friday when they host James Madison in the first of a three game series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
How it happened: ECU capitalized on a two-out error to push four runs across in the bottom of the first. With a 1-0 lead, Bolka belted a three-run homer to complete the scoring.
